Basket chair by Kettal hand-braided in wicker
Designed by Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel.
The Basket chair by Kettal is made from wood and comes in its original version created by the Ditzel, hand-braided in wicker, and in an outdoor version, made from artificial fiber and teak. The cushion fabrics, also designed by Nanna Ditzel, the ‘queen of Danish design’, are pure new wool and come in 4 color combinations and 8 Hallingdal fabrics by Kvadrat.
Kettal works with the most important international designers including Patricia Urquiola, Hella Jongerius and Marcel Wanders to create fabulous outdoor furniture.
An ever popular choice is the Kettal Basket collection. Kettal re-edition the Basket armchair, created in the 1950s by Danish designers Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel, with an outdoor version made from woven synthetic fibre and Yellow Balau wood.
In 1950 Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel created an unusual bowl-shaped seat, essentially a basket hanging from a light oak frame, achieving a chair design that blended the seat and backrest into a bowl of a form consistent with a shell, outstanding for being organic in its form and in its materials. The use of craft materials and painstaking skill in making the rounded form, along with the chair’s pure lines give a sensation of comfort and luxury in a seat that allows a variety of positions.
