Celerie Kemble Lane Venture

When it comes to Palm Beach style decorating, no one achieves the quintessential look quite like Kemble Interiors. Celerie Kemble grew up surrounded by beautiful design as her mother, Mimi McMakin – a fourth-generation Palm Beacher whom I have written about numerous times – founded the firm in the mid 1980s. So you can imagine my delight when I learned that Celerie had partnered with Lane Venture to create a classic line of outdoor furniture that captures the ease, timelessness, and whimsicality of Palm Beach – Celerie Kemble for Lane Venture. Including Rafter Loveseat, Rafter Pouf Ottoman, Rafter Lounge Chair, Rafter Ottomans.

Her inspirations stemmed from 1930s to ’70s vintage Palm Beach and Cuban-inspired sunroom furniture along with with Victorian wicker. The collection arose from need, as Celerie found herself looking for flirtatious, whimsical, and feminine outdoor furniture. And the result is perfection!

“Stylish outdoor living is where civility and comfort are brought deliberately to a wild place. I wanted to design pieces that were technically sturdy enough to withstand an outdoor life but so eloquent with detail that they don’t feel mechanical and are as comfortable as anything you may find in the interior of your house.”

“I’ve seen a lot of French Moroccan stick-style rattan and have long found the construction supremely elegant but hard to find in new weather-impervious materials. Our woven version is fully weatherproof, and the silhouettes and materials have a little bit more of a bohemian feel.”

“Light hues on powder-coated aluminum feels as crisp and necessary as a good pair of white pants on a summer evening. And we worked through a number of revisions to replicate the honey color of old raw wicker and rattan,” she said.

“There are certain motifs and elements that we kept consistent throughout, perhaps because they are an obsession of mine. The look of awning stripes to me is classic outdoor-they have enduring chic. I also love the crisp lines of navy and white and black and white.”

“It was important to me that the pieces had intriguing forms so that they could stand on their own and also be mixed with the rest of my pieces. And I have long thought that every lawn needs a cartwheel; the star ottoman is the epitome of that in outdoor furniture,” she said.

“The color scheme evolved from memories of faded bathing suits, macaroons, and colors as sweet as ice cream parlors. Some of my colors are so soft they can even be read as neutral. The more vivid shades come from my favorite flowers, such as passion flowers, bromeliads, and kumquats.”

“When I think about the outdoors, it’s the delicate scallop of an awning snapping in the wind, the breeziness of a woman’s dress, and the little waves rippling on the water that come to mind and inspire me,” Celerie said.

Needless to say, I am completely obsessed with this entire line, and I am ready to decorate our patio! Click here to shop theCelerie Kemble for Lane Venture collection.
